Update: School

I think I’m going to stick with the CEN program as it will require fewer credits than I previously thought due to some transfers that haven’t taken place yet. I currently hate my classes right now and, quite frankly, I’m doing horrible in them, but I’ll get through somehow.

Guns

So, its late on a Sunday night… I should be in bed… but I’m not.

I’m trying to decide which gun I should purchase. I have it down three.

1.) CZ 75 Kadet

  • Granted, I’ve never held the Kadet. I have held a .40 caliber version of the CZ 75 which is the same size and weight (actually, the .40 is .2 lb lighter than the Kadet). I like the size and weight of the gun and it looks more like a regular gun. I also like the fact that it is similar to the other so that if I decide to upgrade later to a larger caliber weapon, I can go with a CZ 75 and it won’t be much of a change. What I don’t necessarily like about the gun is that, at around $450, it is a bit more than the other two that I have been considering and that I cannot find a store that has one in stock around here. (I’ve only checked two places so far, though.)

2.) Browning Buck Mark Camper

  • I like this one as well – mainly for its size and cost. Sportsman’s Warehouse in Lexington has this for around $270. Its fairly comfortable to hold but I do not really like how its looks. I know looks shouldn’t matter, but this gun just doesn’t scream “pistol” to me.

3.) Smith & Wesson 22A

  • I found this one at Guns Inc. here in Richmond, and also at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Lexington for around $230. The gun is very affordable, which is good. As with the Browning, I’m not too fond of the looks. A feature of this gun is the built in rail mount – but that also detracts from the pistol look that I like. I believe that this gun and the Browning are more of a target pistol than the CZ is.

So those are the three guns I’m looking at. They are all .22’s. Why do I want a .22? There are a few reasons…

  • Ammo is way cheaper
  • I haven’t really shot very much in my life. I’m not new to guns, but I’m not very experienced with them as I’d like
  • I want to work on my accuracy
  • Price is better comparable to the larger calibers (The CZ is close but factoring in the ammo expense its a better deal still, in my opinion.)

Anyways, thats really all I can think of at this time. I’m gonna go to sleep now. Leave comments and let me know what you think.

School Stuff…

Hey everyone…

I’m considering switching majors from Computer Electronic Networking to Computer Information Systems – Network Management. My advisor says there will be more Database administration in the CIS-NetworkMgmt curriculum… which sounds more along the lines of what I want to do. I’m really not getting this electronics stuff… Any comments?

Craziness Indeed…

So its about 8 months later and here I am. Sitting in my apartment on a friday night not doin’ much of anything.

I love it up here in Richmond – I have enjoyed my first semester at EKU and I am looking forward (somewhat) to my next semester here. I am not taking as many classes as I had originally hoped but that stems from having to work and a lack of classes that I need offered at on a schedule I can utilize. I am still working at EDS – which surprises me since I didn’t think I’d be there over 2 months because I thought I’d be working in Richmond. Obviously, I was wrong. I like it at EDS but I do wish for something else – preferably closer – but its okay for now. At least they’re flexible with school.

I miss home… I miss my family and friends… I miss Martin’s which got destroyed in October due to the tornadoes that swept through Owensboro. Going home just isn’t the same without Martin’s and I guess I never realized that until now – granted I have only been home 2 times since Martin’s was demolished and one of those times was for less than 6 hours.

Other things have changed too… Adam got married… Andy moved back to Murray and took a better job with the University down there. I have started an interest in guns – fueled by my friend Mike whose is the proud owner of an awesome 12 gauge and membership to Blue Grass Sportsman’s League. The same Mike who recently just got an apartment in Lexington and will be moving in very soon after Christmas. I have also started wearing glasses occasionally. I think they will help with me having headaches at work, plus the help me see better and I think they look good.

Anyways, life is changing. We can’t stop it from changing, nor do we realize it is changing, but we do need to be aware that it is and utilize this change for the good.

Let the craziness begin!!

On Friday, April 13, 2007, I left Owensboro for a job interview with EDS in Winchester. On Monday, April 16, I interviewed for another position with the same company. I got the job and I’ll start Monday the 23rd.

When I got to EDS on Monday, I talk to John, the guy that is the network security supervisor. We discuss a few things, and then he says, “follow me… I’m gonna let you shadow some of the guys in my department”. I go back to his department and meet some of the guys… nice folks (geeks.. definitely a good thing!)… and watch them go about their tasks… I do this for about a hour or so and then John asks me if I can start TOMORROW. I had to decline… citing that I didn’t live here yet, and so Monday became my start date.

Following that, I left EDS, paperwork that I need to fill out in hand and head to Richmond. Taking a tip from Rachel Ray, I asked some of the guys in the dept. if they’ve ever lived in Richmond. A few of the guys suggested Foxglove Apartments. I check them out and I have a list of about 7 units that I went to and checked out. I narrowed it down to three: http://home.poptartweb.org/aptpics/. As I looked back on the three… I have pretty much narrowed it down to the $400/month location on Patsy. It’s a 1br/1ba, but it will suit my needs. I filled out the form today and faxed and mailed it to the company. It takes 24-48 hours to get an approval, and I’d really like to start moving in on Saturday. They said that I could fax it up there and they’d start looking at it while the actual application and check was in the mail.

I’ll miss Owensboro… but this will be what needs to happen so that I can finish up school at EKU.

One Step Closer…

So I got a letter from EKU yesterday… I got accepted! I wasn’t too worried, but this is definately some good news.

Now I just gotta find a job somewhere up there and I’ll be set!

Happy New Year

Happy new year everyone!

2006 was a good year, I’ve met many good friends and I hope to continue doing that in 2007. I finished up my Associates degree in ’06 and in ’07, I plan to start working on my Bachelor’s degree. In other news, I started a new job working at my old High School. It was a little weird coming back to work there, and at one time I was not happy with the job, but honestly, its not too bad now.

Things I Hope to do in 2007:

  • Find a New Job/Move Out/Work on Bachelor’s degree
    • This is my main objective for 2007. I am planning on moving to Lexington and either attending UK or EKU, and I hope to be done by 2010.
  • Meet New Friends
    • Very important if I’m moving
  • Hang out with current friends
    • Shouldn’t be too hard… Karaoke Tuesdays and Thursday FTW!

I had a great 2006 and I hope that everyone has a wonderful 2007!
